INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this site is to provide individuals interested in world music with a comprehensive resource and thereby to preserve the historical ethnic authenticity of  the cultures that have produced the music.

Select a rhythm from the index to the left and you will be directed to a page devoted to that particular rhythm. Each of these lessons includes historical background, video instruction by master drummer Hafiz Shabazz on how to play the rhythm, and audio recordings of Dartmouth’s World Music Percussion Ensemble performing the rhythm.
